The Left Exit 12 Off Ramp meme is commonly ranked among the top 10 meme templates of all time, and new versions are created and shared daily. The concept is that there us a choice between two options and the car swerves hard towards the one on the right. Sometimes it is the sensible choice, but it can also be something less sensible for humorous reasons. The meme is particularly well suited for marketing purposes as it can illustrate how choosing a brand or a product is obvious and easy.
This website was created to make it easier for businesses, advertisers and content creators to purchase a commercial licence for the meme, without having to go through expensive third party licensing agencies Unlicenced commercial use of the meme will unfortunately result in legal action being taken.
The origin of the Left Exit 12 Off Ramp meme is a video that I uploaded to YouTube on July 4th, 2013. The video features a car drifting an off ramp and currently has more than 802k views. The bridge and the sign where added later using a picture found online. Since then the official template has been updated with a digital recreation of the bridge and the sign to avoid any copyright issues.
According to Know Your Meme, the earliest known use of the video as a meme was posted on December 29th, 2017 by HiddenLOL user, anon90. The post entitled "made a template, don't know if it has potential, template in comments," shows the car with the Swedish flag on it avoiding a photoshopped highway exit.
Since it's birth in 2017 the meme has stayed relevant and popular, with new verions being posted on a daily basis.
You need a license if you want to use the meme to:
A license is not necessary for:
If you are not sure if your proqject require a licence, don't be afraid to ask. I am not unreasonable and will not charge you more than you can afford or more than what the license is worth to you. Sometimes it's enough that you take the time to reach out and ask. If you are a startup or a new content creator I am happy to help out in any way I can. I also encourage individuals to keep creating and sharing new versions to keep the meme alive.
The licence fee is calculated based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, expected reach, time frame, platforms, brand value, context and the overall role of the meme in the project.
If you want to use the licence for a non-profit organization and/or a charity, a licence is not reuired, but I recommend that you reach for a free licence to be safe.
Simply send me an email with as much details as possible about your project, and I will get back to you with a proposal. The more detailed the description is the more accurate the quote will be.
